Orienteering in Argentina - Part Two

1976 - 1986

During this period, some internal and inter-force competitions were carried out in the Armed Forces.

Argentine Army officers took courses, seminars and training programs from 1980 to 1986, inside their force.
One of them who had travelled to Pinkafeld, Austria, devised some maps in Neuquen province for competitions inside the Army Brigade he was assigned to.

The Argentine Air Force continued practicing orienteering, given that this was one of the tests involved in the Aeronautical Pentathlon.
From September 20 to October 3, 1983, four Air Force officers participated in the Clinic on Orienteering Techniques as observers, representing the Argentine Military Sports Federation. They took part in the Seventeenth World Military Orienteering Championship by the International Military Sports Council (CISM) held in Curitiba, Brazil, and organized by the Brazilian Military Sports Confederation.

The team in charge of leading this Clinic was: Director: Lieutenant Colonel Av Nelson Luiz Trindade Rocha and Instructors: Mayor Paulo Sérgio de Oliveira Rocha, Major Geraldo Oliveira de Almeida, Captain Marco Antonio Cunha Maltez, and Captain Ilpo Laiho, from Finland (author of the “Guidebook for Orienteering Training,”1989, published by CISM).

A race was organized using the Ezeiza map at 1:20,000 scale, for students of the National Technical Education School of the state-run telephone company, Empresa Nacional de Telecomunicaciones (ENET - ENTEL).

At the National Institute of Physical Education of Mendoza Province, Orienteering Practical Lessons were taught and the map of a city park was charted.

Probably due to lack of knowledge, some facts of this decade have not been recorded. We apologize for unintentionally failing to mention any individuals and/or institutions that may have played a role; however, we would like to reassure them that if they have done something for the incipient development of Orienteering in our country, it has certainly not been in vain. MANY THANKS!
